On Tuesday, September 23, like most Tuesdays, I had three Kunes RV dealerships to visit as their corporate chaplain. 

I always enjoy visiting with Andy, who is a young Christian and works on RVs as a mechanic/tech at one of our largest stores.  He invited me on that day into the camper he was working on, and was desperate to ask for prayer for his wife and newborn son, Isaac.  Isaac had just been born, but the birth was very hard on him (he was 12 pounds, much larger than expected) and his mother. 

Because they were both in serious condition I sat with Andy and invited him to pray along with me.  As I finished my prayer, Andy was very quiet and looked quite pale, and I was concerned about how he was doing with all of this.  I encouraged him a bit more, and then finished making my rounds at the store. 

I revisited Andy the next Tuesday, September 30.  He looked much more himself, and was delighted to tell me that his wife and son were out of danger and doing much better.  But then he shared his story >

“Don, I need to tell you what happened as you were praying for me last week.  As I closed my eyes and prayed along with you, I found myself looking down at the two of us from a place above.  I saw two beings, clothed in bright light.  One had a hand on your shoulder as you prayed; the other had a hand on mine. 

A verse from God’s word occured to me; ‘For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst (Matt. 18:20).’  And as you finished praying, you ended the prayer with that very verse.  During this time, I sensed a tremendous increase in the temperature in my body.  But then we were done, we opened our eyes, and everything was back to normal.” 

So, Andy and I celebrated this very holy, very powerful encounter…even though it’s hard to describe.  Just as God promised, He really is with us, working, speaking, healing and leading His sons and daughters all the time.  I will never forget this incredible experience of Immanuel, “God With Us.”
